I always say Energy is such an important issue because without it you are dead in the water. At the County we have made reducing our energy consumption a top priority. We are retrofitting County buildings with energy efficient lighting, and requiring all new buildings to be Silver LEED Certified, an internationally recognized green building certification. A solar thermal water heating system will provide the new Adult Probation Center with all of the hot water it needs. Bexar County has also purchased three Diesel Hybrid Trucks for public works projects, and is moving to purchase hybrid electric vehicles.

Besides reducing our carbon footprint, these measures save the County hundreds of thousands of dollars.
