Key Accomplishments
- Spearheaded the creation of the first Re-Entry Program in Bexar County, aimed at reducing recidivism.
- Organized Jail Symposium: “Crowding in Texas-Origins & Solutions” – February 6 & 7, 2008
- Supported County-wide Youth Curfew – 2009
- 2006-2010: $42,767,267 allocated for maintenance and reconstruction of roads in Precinct 4
- Lead the County Energy Policy passed by Commissioners Court to include all new buildings to be built LEED Silver Certified
- $2.5 Million of Bond money used to create Bexar County’s largest Nature Park, Crescent Bend Nature Park, located in Northeast Bexar County
- 2006-2010: $20,800,000 of Venue Tax Bond money used to increase green space for recreation and youth sports programs
- Leading the effort on Commissioners Court to fight against illegal dumping in unincorporated Bexar County and has organized 6 Resource Recovery Roundtables
- 2006-2010: $456,119 for Senior Meal Programs, Nutrition Centers, and Rehabilitation Programs
- Leading the effort on Commissioners Court on Education and Prevention in the areas of Diabetes and HIV/AIDS
- Successfully advocated for the retention of allied health curricular programs at San Antonio College and St. Philips
